About Me
Susan L. Richards
Principal of Always Sharing Wine
I was first introduced to wine by a college boyfriend. It was a Hungarian red wine brooding with an inky black color and biting tannins. But it intrigued me and made me want to learn more about wine. This led to a lifetime of traveling to wine regions around the globe that inspired and fueled my interest in wine, wine culture, and the people who produce it. I have been fortunate to experience the wine regions of Argentina, New Zealand, Italy, France, Portugal, and many parts of the USA.
In 2018, after over 30 years in healthcare, I decided it was time to focus on making my dream of working in the wine world a reality. While still employed full-time in business development at a large Boston hospital, I pursued formal wine education and took on two part-time jobs in the wine industry. After achieving Level 2 and Level 3 WSET (Wine Spirit Education Trust) certification, the second to the highest level, I left my full-time job to embark on a new career in food and wine.
In January 2020, I became the Health, Wellness, and Wine Advisor to Suvie, a Boston-based food technology company. My role included publishing over 50 wine, lifestyle, and food articles for the Suvie website and ”Recette Magazine” before leaving in 2022. In January of 2023, it was time to launch my own wine and food consulting company, aptly named “Always Sharing Wine,” to inspire the joy of wine in others. I provide education, consulting, and private tastings, focusing on grape varietals, wine regions, and food and wine pairings. In 2023, I became a contributing writer for Napa Valley Life magazine and am looking to expand my freelance writing work.
Along the way, I have worked as a wine sales consultant for two Boston boutique wine shops, represented a small Massachusetts winery, Westport Rivers, taught at the Commonwealth Wine School and provided commercial tastings for the Tasting Company. All this work and experience has added to my knowledge of wine and my love of it, especially in sharing it with others.
I believe wine is accessible to everyone, should never be intimidating, and that it connects people through a shared experience. In my writing, presentations, private tastings, and consulting, I strive to excite others about the world of wine with my entertaining and engaging spirit.
